يا حُسنَ رَيحانةٍ رَيّانةٍ عبقت
لَوif أُنصفَتit were treated fairly سُميِّتit would be called رَوضَa garden of الرياحينِfragrant herbs
لَو أُنصفَت سُميِّت رَوضَ الرياحينِ
Oh, the beauty of a lush basil plant, breathing fragrance!
Were it given its due, it would be called a garden of fragrant herbs.
تضمَّنتit contained منof افانينvaried forms الرشاقةgrace ماthat which
تضمَّنت من افانين الرشاقة ما
قدindeed فاقsurpassed بالحسنin beauty ازهارthe blossoms of الافانينِthe boughs
قد فاق بالحسن ازهار الافانينِ
It contains such varied forms of grace
That have surpassed in beauty the blossoms on the boughs.
حظُّthe share of البصارئرdiscerning minds منهاfrom it فيin محاسنهاits beauties
حظُّ البصارئر منها في محاسنها
حظُّthe share of النواظرthe eyes منfrom زهوthe splendor of البساتينِthe gardens
حظُّ النواظر من زهو البساتينِ
The delight discerning minds take in its beauties
Is the delight eyes take in the splendor of gardens.
لِلَّهاGod be praised for إِسكندرIskandar المفضالthe generous منشئهاits creator
لِلَّها إِسكندر المفضال منشئها
فهوfor he الجديرthe deserving one بشكرٍof thanks غيرnot مَمنونِcut short
فهو الجدير بشكرٍ غير مَمنونِ
God be praised for Iskandar, its generous creator!
For he is worthy of unceasing thanks.
اهدىgave as a gift لناto us منfrom لآليthe pearls of بحرthe sea of فكرتهِhis thought
اهدى لنا من لآلي بحر فكرتهِ
درّاpearls نضيراًlustrous ولكنand yet غيرnot مكنونِhidden away
درّا نضيراً ولكن غير مكنونِ
He gave us, from the pearls of the sea of his thought,
Lustrous pearls—and yet not hidden away.
