نجمٌ من القمرين النيرين بدا
فجلَّso glorious منin respect of مولدٍbirth سامٍlofty ومنand in respect of ولدِa child
فجلَّ من مولدٍ سامٍ ومن ولدِ
A star appeared from the two radiant moons.
A star shone from the two resplendent moons,
How glorious the noble birth, and how glorious the child!
Radiant from a noble birth and offspring.
باسمby the name of النَجيبNajib (the noble one) دعوهُthey called him منbecause of مَخايِلِهِhis signs of promise
باسم النَجيب دعوهُ من مَخايِلِهِ
نَظيرَlike والدهِhis father ذيpossessing الفضلvirtue والرشدِand sound judgment
نَظيرَ والدهِ ذي الفضل والرشدِ
They called him Najib for the promise he showed,
With the auspicious name Al-Najeeb he was called,
Like his father, endowed with virtue and sound judgment.
The peer of his father of virtue and righteousness.
قرَّتwere gladdened بِهِby him اعينeyes الآمالhopes واِبتسمَتand smiled
قرَّت بِهِ اعين الآمال واِبتسمَت
لَهُfor him ثغورlips الهناjoy والسعدand good fortune والرغَدِand ease
لَهُ ثغور الهنا والسعد والرغَدِ
The eyes of hope were gladdened by him, and there smiled
Eyes of hope turned to him and smiled,
For him the lips of joy, good fortune, and ease.
For him the peaks of bliss, fortune, and prosperity.
تَقولthey say ارَّختI recorded the date بالافراحwith rejoicing هاتفةًcrying aloud
تَقول ارَّخت بالافراح هاتفةً
مُبارَكٌblessed نسلُoffspring يعقوبٍYaqub الىto الابدِeternity
مُبارَكٌ نسلُ يعقوبٍ الى الابدِ
They say, crying out with joy, “I have recorded the date:
"Record the joys!" a voice proclaimed,
Blessed be Yaqub’s offspring forever!”
"Blessed forever is the line of Jacob!"
