منfrom آلthe family of رعدَRaʿd الاكرمينthe most noble مودّعٌone bid farewell
من آل رعدَ الاكرمين مودّعٌ
أَجرىmade flow منof الدمعtears السَخينhot صَبيبَهُtheir outpouring
أَجرى من الدمع السَخين صَبيبَهُ
A man of the most noble house of Raʿd, bid farewell,
From the noble tribe of Ra'ad, a farewell bidder
Has made a torrent of hot tears flow.
Who shed copious tears from his eyes
شهمٌa gallant man ثوىlay تحتbeneath الضريحthe tomb كأَنَّهُas though he were
شهمٌ ثوى تحت الضريح كأَنَّهُ
بَدرٌa full moon غداbecame جوفthe depths of الترابthe earth مَغيبَهُits setting-place
بَدرٌ غدا جوف التراب مَغيبَهُ
A gallant man lay beneath the tomb, as though he were
A magnanimous man who lies under the tomb as though
A full moon whose setting-place became the depths of the earth.
A full moon has set beneath the earth and concealed its light
قصفتهُsnapped him ايديhands البينseparation غصناًa branch غيرnot ذيbearing
قصفتهُ ايدي البين غصناً غير ذي
ثمرٍfruit وأَذوتand withered منfrom صباهُhis youth رطيبهُits tender growth
ثمرٍ وأَذوت من صباهُ رطيبهُ
Separation’s hands snapped him, a branch bearing no
The hands of separation have plucked him like a branch without fruit
Fruit, and withered the tender growth of his youth.
And drained the sap of his youth
وَمُبشِّرٌand a bearer of glad tidings وافىcame فأَرَّخthen dated لحدهُhis grave
وَمُبشِّرٌ وافى فأَرَّخ لحدهُ
وَتَلاand recited قدindeed اِختارhas chosen الالهُGod حبيبهُHis beloved
وَتَلا قد اِختار الالهُ حبيبهُ
And a bearer of glad tidings came and dated his grave,
A harbinger of good news who has reached his final abode
And recited: “Indeed, God has chosen His beloved.”
And recited: God has chosen His beloved
