إنيindeed, I أطالبI demand محبوبيmy beloved بماfor what انفَطَرتwas naturally formed
عليهِupon it نَفسيmy soul منof الإِغرامardent love وَالشَغفِand passion
Indeed, I demand of my beloved what is innate
I crave my beloved for that which
In my soul: ardent love and passion.
my soul is broken by passion and desire
فإنso if أكنI be جرتُI acted unjustly معهُwith him فيin مطاليتيmy demanding
وَكانَand was ذلكthat ليfor me ذَنباًa sin فواthen oh أَسَفيmy regret
If I have wronged him in my demands,
If I have gone too far in my requests
And that is a sin of mine—oh, my regret!
and that was a sin, then alas for my sorrow
لكنَّbut ذَنبيmy sin علىupon الحبّlove الشديدintense بُنيwas founded
ياoh ليتwould that هَذاthis بهذاfor this فيin الغَرامlove يفيsuffices
Yet my sin was founded upon intense love;
But my sin was built on intense love
Ah, would that this might suffice for that in love!
If only this would suffice in love
