Of the Rahhal family, beloved of her people,
From the family of honored travelers
She departed in the lush bloom of her youth.
She journeyed with the dawn of her pleasant spring
فيat سنage اربعَfour عشرةَten اِنخَسَفَتshe was eclipsed كَماas
في سن اربعَ عشرةَ اِنخَسَفَت كَما
هيَit عادةthe custom الاقمارthe moons فيin الدَوَرانِrevolution
هيَ عادة الاقمار في الدَوَرانِ
At fourteen years of age she was eclipsed, as
At fourteen her crescent waned as is
Is the way of moons as they revolve.
The wont of moons in their circling
يُبكىis mourned علىfor بربارةٍBarbara فيin ارضناour land
يُبكى على بربارةٍ في ارضنا
وَلَهاand she has ابتسامٌa smile فيin اعزّmost exalted مكانِplace
وَلَها ابتسامٌ في اعزّ مكانِ
Barbara is mourned in our land,
A Barbara is mourned in our land
While she smiles in the most exalted place.
While she smiles in the dearest place
ياO غُصنَbough بانٍbān tree اذas نُؤَرّخهُwe date it دماًblood
يا غُصنَ بانٍ اذ نُؤَرّخهُ دماً
تَبكيweep عليكfor you حمائمُdoves الاغصانِthe branches
تَبكي عليك حمائمُ الاغصانِ
O bān-tree bough, as we record its date in blood,
O bough of Bani, when we date you with blood
The doves of the branches weep for you.
The doves of the branches weep over you
