بَني الرَشيدُ الامينُ بيتاً
قدindeed فاقexcelled بالحسنin beauty وَالمَتانهand solidity
قد فاق بالحسن وَالمَتانه
Al-Rashid al-Amin built a house
The righteous Al-Rashid built a house
That excelled in beauty and solidity.
Surpassing in beauty and strength
كَذاكthus ارَّختُI composed a chronogram كلُّevery بيتٍhouse
كَذاك ارَّختُ كلُّ بيتٍ
بُنيwas built علىupon الرُشدsound judgment والأَمانهand trustworthiness
بُني على الرُشد والأَمانه
Thus I composed its chronogram: “Every house
Thus have I dated each verse
Was built upon sound judgment and trustworthiness.”
