يا ليت شعري أي الروض مرتعه
The gazelle whose place is in my heart has drawn far away.
The gazelle whose home is in my heart has gone far away.
Ah, if only I knew which meadow is his pasture!
Would that I knew which meadow is his pasture.

يا باحلا وجميل الصبر يتبعه
I called to him in my brokenness as I bade him farewell:
I called to him, brokenhearted, as I bade him farewell:
O withholding one—and graceful patience follows him.
O [departing one?], whom graceful patience follows,

Is there any way that meeting you may come to pass?
Might there be a way to meet you?
The fire of love blazes in my innermost being,
The fire of love blazes in my entrails,

يا من به رتبتي في العشق سامية
And my eye, like a river, flows forever.
And my eye streams like a river for all time.
O you through whom my rank in love is exalted,
O you through whom my rank in love is exalted,

ولا وفي لك قلبي وهو يحترق
My eyelids have not done you justice, though they bleed,
My eyelids have not done you justice, though they bleed,
Nor has my heart been faithful to you, though it burns.
Nor has my heart fulfilled its duty to you, though it burns.
