It is said: do not look at a beautiful face

For at the Resurrection it brings regrets.

For in the resurrection it will cause regrets

وامنع العين أن ترى ما اشتهته

انما ذاك يذهب الحسنات

انما ذاك يذهب الحسنات

And keep the eye from seeing what it desires;

And forbid the eye to see what it desires

That only takes away good deeds.

That will only take away good deeds

قلت ذاك الجمال لما تبدى

قلت ذاك الجمال لما تبدى

كثرت دهشتي وقل ثباتي

كثرت دهشتي وقل ثباتي

I said: when that beauty appeared,

I said: When that beauty appeared

My amazement grew, and my composure waned.

My astonishment increased and my composure decreased

وبدت حالة هنالك حتى

وبدت حالة هنالك حتى

غفل الكاتبان عن سيئاتي

غفل الكاتبان عن سيئاتي

And such a state arose there that

And a state appeared right then and there until

The two scribes took no notice of my sins.

The two recording angels forgot my misdeeds
