غداًtomorrow أيُّهاO القلبُthe heart ماwhat تصنَعُyou will do
غداً أيُّها القلبُ ما تصنَعُ
أتَصبرُwill you be patient? للبينِat separation أمor تجزَعُyou become distraught
أتَصبرُ للبينِ أم تجزَعُ
Tomorrow, O heart, what will you do?
Tomorrow, o heart, what will you do?
Will you bear separation patiently, or become distraught?
Will you have patience for separation or will you grieve?
كأنيas though I بِصَبرِكَwith your patience فيin أمرِهمtheir affair
كأني بِصَبرِكَ في أمرِهم
مُودّعُbidding farewell to غيرِother than الذيthe one whom ودَّعُواthey bade farewell to
مُودّعُ غيرِ الذي ودَّعُوا
It is as though, with your patience concerning them,
It seems with your patience regarding them
I were bidding farewell to someone other than the one they bade farewell to.
You are bidding farewell unlike their farewell
أماdid ... not? راقبَhe feared اللَهGod يومَon the day of الفِراseparation (word continues)
أما راقبَ اللَه يومَ الفِرا
قِ(completes 'separation') فيمنwith regard to one who هوhe المُدنفُthe gravely ill one المُوجعُthe tormented one
قِ فيمن هو المُدنفُ المُوجعُ
Did he not fear God on the day of parting,
Did He not see the day we parted
in his treatment of one who is gravely ill and tormented?
Who is the one harming, the one hurting?
أياO رَبِّmy Lord لاno عبرةٌa tear تنفعُavails
أيا رَبِّ لا عبرةٌ تنفعُ
ولاnor دعوةٌa prayer فيهمُconcerning them تسمَعُis heard
ولا دعوةٌ فيهمُ تسمَعُ
O my Lord, no tear avails,
O Lord, no tears will help
nor is any prayer concerning them heard.
Nor any prayer regarding them will be heard
