ل بزفرةِ الصبِّ الكئيبِ
sighing, a lover burning with longing,
Moaning, pouring misery
with a sorrowful lover’s sigh.
Not with the sigh of miserable youth

يصلُ التذكر بالأني
نِcompletes الأنين: moaning منfrom الحنينyearning إلىfor حبيبِa beloved
نِ من الحنين إلى حبيبِ
He joins remembrance with moaning
Remembrance connects longing
out of yearning for a beloved.
To the beloved
لمdid not يلقَencounter بعدafter فراقهِparting from him
لم يلقَ بعد فراقهِ
قمراًa moon وغصناًand a bough فيin كثيبِa sand dune
قمراً وغصناً في كثيبِ
Since parting from him, he has not encountered
Who has not found after his absence
a moon and a bough in a sand dune.
