The sorrowful one's sigh and the forsaken one's abasement

Have spoken to my reproachers of my heart's secret.

O you, to whom my body's death was announced through your eye

By a glance that mingles its sickness with languor.

If what your gaze has wrought in me endures,

My eye will complain to my body, and my joy will dwindle.

So, by the beauty of your face, which radiance enhances,

Union with one such as you is no cause for reproach.
