طالَ ملامي فليسَ ينفعُه
The first eye wept, and I follow it.
The first tears flowed and more followed
My reproach has gone on long, yet does it no good.
My blamer persisted though it won't help

ومر بي والرداءُ يجمعُه
It scatters tears in anguish, like pearls.
Tears of regret split into pearls
And he passed by me, his cloak gathering them.
As I passed by, my cloak gathered them

بالوَعدِ حتى يكادَ يصدعُه
And he touches the heart, burning with anguish,
My heart ached intensely
With the promise, until he almost rends it.
Promises alleviated it, nearly splitting it

Where someone never ceases to reproach him—
To the point that my constant chider
For God's sake, stop; I do not hear him.
For God's sake, stop! I can't hear anymore
