عدوَىcontagion جفونِكَyour eyelids لَيسَdoes not تَنصَرِمُcease
عدوَى جفونِكَ لَيسَ تَنصَرِمُ
لاmay not نالَtouch جسمَكَyour body ذلكthat السقمُsickness
لا نالَ جسمَكَ ذلك السقمُ
The contagion of your eyelids never ceases.
The illness of your eyelids does not diminish,
May that sickness never touch your body.
Though your body did not contract that disease.
هيَit أكسَبتhas brought جِسميmy body الضَّنىwasting sickness وبهاand through it
هيَ أكسَبت جِسمي الضَّنى وبها
قلبيmy heart إليهِtoward him فإلفُهُso its companion الألَمُpain
قلبي إليهِ فإلفُهُ الألَمُ
It has brought wasting sickness to my body, and through it
It brought my body grief, and through it
my heart turns toward him; pain is its companion.
My heart toward it - so pain embraced it.
ياO مَنone whose مَحاسِنُbeauties وجههِhis face علَمٌa beacon
يا مَن مَحاسِنُ وجههِ علَمٌ
ومحبُّهُand his lover فيin حبهِloving him عَلَمُa beacon
ومحبُّهُ في حبهِ عَلَمُ
O you whose face’s beauties are a beacon,
O you whose beautiful face is a banner
and whose lover is a beacon in loving him.
And whose lover in his love is a banner,
إنيindeed I بكيتُwept over بعَبرتيwith my tears بدنيmy body
إني بكيتُ بعَبرتي بدني
حتَّىuntil جَرىflowed بعدَafter الدموعِthe tears دَمُblood
حتَّى جَرى بعدَ الدموعِ دَمُ
Indeed, I wept over my body with my tears,
I cried with my tears my body away
until blood flowed after the tears.
Until after the tears blood flowed.
