فلوso if أنthat خداًa cheek كانwere منfrom فيضِan overflow عبرةٍa tear
يرىbe seen معشباًcovered in grass لاخضرwould have turned green خديmy cheek فأعشباand then grown grass
So if a cheek could, from a flood of tears,
If a cheek had overflowed with tears of sorrow,
be seen grass-grown, my cheek would have turned green and sprouted.
It would have seen my cheek become green and verdant.
كأنas though ربيعspring الزهرthe blossoms بينamid مدامعيmy tears
بماwith what اخضلgrew wet فيهwithin it منof ضنىwasting grief وتصبباand streamed forth
As though a spring of blossoms lay amid my tears,
As though the springtime of flowers were midst my tears,
with the wasting grief that grew wet within it and streamed forth.
With what they shed of tenderness and pouring.
علىalthough أننيthat I لمdid not أبكِweep إلاexcept مودعاًbidding farewell
بقيةَa remnant نفسٍa soul ودعتنيbade me farewell لتذهباso that it might depart
Yet I wept only as I bade farewell
Yet I did not weep except to bid farewell
to the remnant of a soul that bade me farewell to depart.
To a soul's remainder that bid me go.
وقدand indeed قلتُI said لماwhen لمdid not أجدfind ليfor me راحةًsolace
سوىexcept for الدمعtears لماwhen حلarrived أهلاًwelcome ومرحباand welcome
And I said, when I found no solace for myself
And I said, when I found no comfort for myself
save tears, as they came: “Welcome, welcome!”
Other than tears, since it had settled as a welcome and greetings.
