قلsay لمَنto the one who نَالهreached him ملامهhis reproach
واشتاقَand he yearned حتَّىuntil بَداbecame apparent سَقامُهhis sickness
Say to him whom reproach has overtaken,
Tell the one who is blamed
And who yearned until his sickness showed:
And yearned until his sickness appeared
فطالَso grew prolonged منfrom عاذليهِhis reproachers لماwhen
رَأوهُthey saw him لاnot يَرعَويhe desists ملامُهhis reproach
So the blame from his reproachers grew prolonged when
So the blame of his critics lasted
They saw that he would not desist.
When they saw he does not care for their blame
ياO حَسنَfair الوَجهِof face ذُقtaste ذِماماًa pledge of protection
لمnot (past negation) يقضَbe decreed منfrom حبِّكمlove for you حِمامُهhis destined death
O fair of face, taste a pledge of protection;
O beautiful face, taste patience
His death from love for you has not been decreed.
For he has not fulfilled his love for you
ياO مَنone who رَمانيshot me بمقلتيهِwith his two eyes
فلمso did not يطِشmiss the mark إذwhen رَمىhe shot سِهامُهhis arrows
O you who shot me with your two eyes,
O you who shot me with your glances
So your arrows did not miss when you shot.
But your arrows did not pierce when you shot them
