    فَخدُكَ ما ينفكُّ من عَبرةٍ تَجرِي

    Patience is hemmed in by the eye's bursts of tears;

So your cheek is never free of a flowing tear.

And a hidden force bound the body to sickness—

A force of longing that barred patience from the breast's expanse.

Is it because the one you love departed that you leaned on sorrow,

And longing's herald called out before you in remembrance?

So it has not rested in its place since I parted from him,

Nor was it anything but a passing visitor that strayed from my thoughts.

I converse with a soul that rises every hour,

So I confine it between the breastbones and the throat.

And my choking grief brings it to me, as though it were

Scorched by embers between the ribs.
