مُستعيذٌ بك من حُز
نٍend of 'sorrow' يعانيهِhe endures it طويلِlong-lasting
نٍ يعانيهِ طويلِ
One seeking refuge in you from sorrow
I seek refuge in You from prolonged
that he endures, long-lasting;
grief and its suffering,
وعليلٌand an ailing one يبعثُhe sends forth الأنbeginning of 'the breaths'
وعليلٌ يبعثُ الأن
فاسَend of 'breaths' منfrom بعدِafter غليلِburning longing
فاسَ من بعدِ غليلِ
and, ailing, he sends forth breaths
And a sick man whose sighs
after burning longing.
relieve him after torment.
ياO عليلاًailing one قلبُهُhis heart يَبbeginning of 'wastes away'
يا عليلاً قلبُهُ يَب
لىend of 'wastes away' علىupon جسمٍa body عليلٍailing
لى على جسمٍ عليلٍ
O ailing one whose heart wastes away
Oh sick at heart! It yearns
upon an ailing body,
for a frail body.
كيفَhow يسلوfinds solace الدنفُthe lovesick one المَهbeginning of 'the forsaken'
كيفَ يسلو الدنفُ المَه
جورُend of 'forsaken' بالصبرِthrough patience الجميلِgracious
جورُ بالصبرِ الجميلِ
how can the forsaken, lovesick one find solace
How can the agonized soul find
through gracious patience?
solace in beautiful patience?
