ياO كَبدِيmy liver فيin الهَوىlove وياand O بَصريmy sight
أصبحتماyou both have become فيin عناًdistress علىat خطرِrisk
O my liver in love, and O my sight,
O my heart and O my sight in love
You both have come to be in distress, at risk.
You have become in trouble over peril
لاmay not تبلياyou both waste away لاmay not شقيتماyou both suffer أبداًever
إلاexcept بماthrough what نلتماyou both gained منfrom النظرِgazing
May you both never waste away, nor ever suffer,
Do not wither, do not be wretched forever
Except through what you have gained from gazing.
Except with what you obtained from looking
دوماremain, both of you علىin طاعةobedience الهَوىto love دعةًat ease
فالطرفُfor the eye بينَbetween الدموعِtears والسهرِand sleeplessness
Remain, both of you, at ease in obedience to love,
Always following the passion submissively
For the eye is between tears and sleeplessness.
So the eyelids are between tears and vigilance
ياO راقداًsleeper لمnot يُحِطhas encompassed بهhim حذرٌfear
لمnot يبقِhe spared منof مُهجَتيmy lifeblood ولمand not يذرِhe left
O sleeper, whom no fear has encompassed,
O you who sleeps without being conscious of caution
Who has spared none of my lifeblood and left nothing.
Nothing remains of my affection, nor does it leave a trace
