أياO طرفُeye مالكwhat ails you لاnot ترقدyou sleep
وماand what لدموعِكwith your tears لاnot تجمدُthey dry up
O eye, what ails you that you do not sleep?
O eyes sleep not though slumber may,
And what ails your tears that they do not dry?
Nor let tears freeze though cheeks turn gray.

علىupon الدمعthe tears ماsomething that بالهوىto love يشهدُbears witness
Is there not upon the cheek, from what has befallen
The tears that flow in silent streams,
the tears, something that bears witness to love?
Bear witness to love's restless dreams.

And a raging passion in the heart that
In my tumultuous heart once more,
longing has torn apart will not be quenched.
Longing fans the unquenched fire.
إذاwhen بثّhe gives vent خيفone fears علىfor مدنفٍa wasted sufferer
منfrom الوجدlove's anguish زفرتهhis sigh تهمدُdies away
When he gives vent to it, one fears for a man wasted
Though from a withered branch may rise,
by love's anguish, whose sigh dies away.
The moan of grief that slowly dies.
