O eye of the sleepless, where is your slumber?
The eye of one who does not sleep, where is your slumber?
Ardent longing that leads you has banished it.

How can you forget, or how can patience help you,
How can the morning solace you or make you happy

While the one you love holds your leading strings?

Your love has lasted long, and so have his unjust reproaches.
Your love for him grew long, and from him, estrangement
How he holds back, and how you strive!
How can you restrain it, and how can you strive?
