ياO نائياًdistant one أينَwhere دَمعِيmy tears
أسعدhelp فقدfor indeed ضاقَhas grown narrow ذَرعيmy endurance
O distant one, where are my tears?
O distant one, where are my tears?
Help me, for my endurance is spent.
My happiness is gone, I can take no more
تضنُّbegrudges بالوَصلِwith reunion عينيmy eye
مُذsince كانَwas أنتَyou وسمعيand my hearing
My eye begrudges reunion,
My eyes yearn for your presence
Since you and my hearing were,
Since you and my hearing were one
منfrom كلall ضريmy suffering إلىto لَحglance (first part of لَحْظِ)
ظِglance (completion of لَحْظِ) مقلتيهِhis two eyes ونفعيand my benefit
From all my suffering to the glance
From every harm to the cheek
Of his two eyes, and my benefit.
Protect my eyes and benefit me
ويُحبَسُand is held back الدَّمعُthe tears ياO مَنone who

And tears are held back, O one who
And tears are held back, O you who
Deepens my anguish in the heart.
Increase the sorrow in my heart
