لمdid not تدعleave زفرتيmy sigh لعينيfor my eye دموعاtears
وكفاهاand it sufficed for it أنthat لاnot تذوقَtaste هجوعاslumber
My sigh left my eye no tears,
and tasting no slumber is burden enough for it.
ودمتand I remained بالسقامin sickness جسماًin body وقلباand heart
مستهامينِboth love-stricken يبكيانِboth weeping جَميعاtogether
And I remained sick in body and heart,
both love-stricken, weeping together,
مِنbecause of حَبيبٍa beloved أراهُI see him يزدادُhe grows تيهاًin haughtiness
كلَّماwhenever ازدَدتُI increased ذِلةًin abasement وَخُضوعاand submission
because of a beloved whom I see growing haughtier
the more I grow abased and submissive.
