طرفٌan eye يُقلِّبُturns جفنيهِits two eyelids مدىthroughout السهرِthe vigil
My night drew no complaint for its length or brevity
My sleepless eyes did not doubt the length or brevity
From an eye turning its eyelids throughout the vigil.
Of the night, as my eyelids kept flipping all night
ياO زَفرةًa sigh سلبتrobbed عينيَّmy two eyes دمعتهاtheir tear
أظنُّI think دمعيmy tears جرىflowed ذاthis اليومday منfrom بصرِيmy sight
O sigh that robbed my eyes of their tear!
Oh sigh that took away my teary eyes
I think my tears flowed this day from my eyes.
I think on this day my tears flowed from my vision
ياOh ليتَwould that حزنيَmy grief منحلdissolved تسيلُflow بهِwith it
دُموعُtears وهميmy imagination بينَbetween الفكرِthought والفكَرِand thoughts
Oh, would that my grief were dissolved, and with it flowed
I wish my sorrows would melt and flow
The tears of my imagination between thought and thoughts;
With tears of passion between thoughts that wander and ponder

شوقٌlonging إلىfor نورِlight وجهِface الشمسِthe sun والقمَرِand the moon
And had not become bewildered in a heart divided
No heated yearning dwelt in a heart it split
By longing for the light of the face of the sun and moon.
Longing for the light of the sun and moon's splendor
