طولُlength of اشتِياقيmy longing أذابَنيhas melted me away سقماin sickness
طولُ اشتِياقي أذابَني سقما
وأمطرَand caused to rain العينَthe eye عبرةًa tear ودماand blood
وأمطرَ العينَ عبرةً ودما
My long yearning has made me melt away in sickness,
The length of my longing has melted me into illness,
and made my eye rain tears and blood.
And my eyes rain tears and blood.
فارقنيleft me مَنthe one whose هواهُlove for him أنحلَنيhas emaciated me
فارقني مَن هواهُ أنحلَني
فبانَso departed قلبيmy heart واستَخلفَand left as successor السقماsickness
فبانَ قلبي واستَخلفَ السقما
The one whose love has wasted me has left me;
The one I love left me weakened,
so my heart departed and left sickness in its stead.
So my heart was revealed and illness took its place.
ياoh وَحشةَloneliness of الجسمِthe body للفؤادِfor the heart فلوfor if
يا وَحشةَ الجسمِ للفؤادِ فلو
يعلمُit knew ماwhat بيafflicts me منfrom فقدهِlosing it رَحِماit would have pity
يعلمُ ما بي من فقدهِ رَحِما
Oh, the body's loneliness for its heart! For if
Oh loneliness of the body for the heart, if only
it knew what I suffer from losing it, it would have pity.
It knew what loss of him did to me, it would have mercy.
ياO ربِّmy Lord خُذtake vengeance ليfor me مِنon الفراقِseparation ولاand do not
يا ربِّ خُذ لي مِن الفراقِ ولا
تأخذtake vengeance لقلبيfor my heart مِنon الذيthe one who ظَلماdid wrong
تأخذ لقلبي مِن الذي ظَلما
O Lord, take vengeance for me on separation, and do not
Oh Lord, take from me the pain of separation, but do not
take vengeance for my heart on the one who wronged it.
Take from my heart the one who wronged me.
