وضنينٌ بعطفهِ
Miserly, though not toward his beloved,
With a tender glance from those eyes,
and grudging with his tenderness.

By him who was granted dominion over hearts,
He who has ruled all hearts,
so they bowed to his gaze,
Gave himself up to a mere glance,

He to whom all bow below the waist,

رامَ وِداً فأصفهِ
Keep company with a sorrowful, lovesick man
Join a longing lover,
who sought affection—give it to him sincerely.
Who sought affection, yet was refused.
