طولُ حنينٍ إلى حنينِ
أورثَhas caused فقدَloss of الكرىsleep جُفونيmy eyelids
أورثَ فقدَ الكرى جُفوني
Long yearning for Hunayn
A longing's length to longing
has left my eyelids bereft of sleep.
Has caused the loss of my eyelids
ياO حظَّgood fortune of عينيmy eye وياand O مناهاits desire
يا حظَّ عيني ويا مناها
ومُنتهىand the utmost extent of غايتيmy aim ودينيand my faith
ومُنتهى غايتي وديني
O my eye's good fortune, and O its desire,
O eye's fortune and their delight
and my ultimate aim and my faith,
And my aspiration's end and my religion
فجُدso be generous لِمنto one who طَرفهُhis eye غريقٌdrowned
فجُد لِمن طَرفهُ غريقٌ
فيin عَبرةِthe tear of الوالهِthe lovelorn one الحزينِthe sorrowful
في عَبرةِ الوالهِ الحزينِ
be generous, then, to one whose eye is drowned
Make provisions for one whose glance is drowning
in the tear of the sorrowful, lovelorn one.
In the tears of the sorrowful lover
أهدىhas bestowed هَواهُhis passion إلىupon حشاهُhis heart
أهدى هَواهُ إلى حشاهُ
طولَprolonged duration of الصَّباباتِardent longings والأنينِand groaning
طولَ الصَّباباتِ والأنينِ
His passion has bestowed upon his heart
His passion gifted him his folly
prolonged yearnings and groans.
