إن جَفاني فَلا جَفا مُقلتيكا
Keep sweet slumber captive with you.
Leave the sweetness of blame confined upon you
If it shuns me, may it not shun your eyes.
If it has abandoned me, then it was no abandonment from your eyes

Is it fitting for the eyelids to taste sleep
It is good that sleep feeds the eyelids
while their pupil yearns for you?
While their humanity yearns for you

Do not blame me for weeping, for I
Do not blame me for crying, for
weep only for what is in your hands.
I only cry for what is in your hands

أخذَ اللَهُ لي بحقِّ فؤادي

وشفى ناظري من وجنَتيكا
May God exact my heart’s due for me,
God has taken away for me in truth my heart
and grant my eye relief from your cheeks.
And healed my eyes from your cheeks
