أعذولٌ لامَه أو حاسدٌ

جالَ في الوجدِ بهِ غيّرهُ

جالَ في الوجدِ بهِ غيّرهُ

Was it a reproacher who blamed him, or an envier

Was it a slanderer's lies

Who roamed with him through passionate longing and changed him?

That stirred disquiet in his heart

اسألوا من ملكَ الحسنَ متى

يرجعِ القلبَ الذي طيَّرهُ

Ask him who possesses beauty when

Ask the beauty who rules my heart

Beauty offered itself to him,

He offered his love but then withdrew

Then he encountered the last thing that bewildered him.
