يُحاذرُhe fears فيduring رواحٍevening departure أوor غدوٍّmorning departure
I would ransom Muhammad from every harm
I sacrifice myself for Muhammad at every rise or set
he fears in the evening or the morning.
O moon of the sky, you have descended so low
أياO قَمرَmoon السَّماءِof heaven سَفلتَyou sank low حتَّىto the point that
كأنَّكَas though you قدalready ضَجِرتَgrew weary منof العُلوِّthe heights
O moon of heaven, you have sunk so low
As if you were weary of the heights
that you seem to have grown weary of the heights.
I saw you distanced from your beloved
رأيتُكَI saw you منfrom حبيبكَyour beloved ذاhaving بِعادٍdistance
ومِمَّنand from one who لاnot يُحبُّكَloves you ذاhaving دُنوِّnearness
I saw you distant from your beloved,
And approached by one who does not love you
and close to one who does not love you.
It should suffice as regret for you from a lover
وحَسبُكَand enough for you حَسرةًsorrow لكَfor you منfrom حَبيبٍa beloved
رأيتyou saw زِمامَهُhis reins بِيديin the hands of عَدوِّan enemy
And it is sorrow enough for you to have a beloved
That I saw his reins in the hands of an enemy
whose reins you saw in an enemy's hands.
