إذاwhen طعمتُI tasted الكرىslumber عَنfrom بَعضsome of ذِكراكاremembrance of you
I offer up sleeplessness, for sleep distracts me,
I offer sleepiness because sleep preoccupies me,
When I taste slumber, from some of my remembrance of you.
When I taste a little forgetfulness of your mention.
لاmay not طابَbe pleasant ليfor me العيشُlife لاno بلrather لاnot صفاbe serene ليَfor me لاno
عيشٌlife بطَرفةِfor a blink of عينan eye حينwhen أنساكاI forget you
May life never be sweet to me—no, rather, never serene for me; no
Life is not sweet for me, no, there is no serenity for me, no
Life, even for the blink of an eye, when I forget you.
Life with the blinking of an eye when I forget you.
لوif لمnot أكنI am استلذُّI relish السقمَsickness فيكَfor your sake وماand whatever

Were I not to relish sickness for your sake, and whatever
If I had not been pleased with the sickness from you and that
Comes with it save life itself, I would not love you.
Which only enraptures souls, I would not have loved you.
لاmay not فكَّنيfree me اللَهُGod منfrom أسرِcaptivity of الهوىlove أبداًever
وعشتُand may I live أرجوكَI hope for you ياO سؤليmy desire وعافاكاand may He keep you well
May God never free me from love's captivity,
May God release me from the shackles of passion forever,
And may I live hoping for you, O my desire, and may He keep you well.
And may I live hoping for you, my wish and your wellbeing.
