ما ليَ من حبكَ من بدّ
هجرتَyou forsook أوor دُمتَyou remained علىupon العَهدِthe pledge
هجرتَ أو دُمتَ على العَهدِ
I have no escape from loving you,
My hopeless love for you knows no end
whether you forsake me or remain true to the pledge.
Whether you leave or stay true to your vow
ياO أمليmy hope لاnot نلتُI attained منكَfrom you المُنىwishes
يا أملي لا نلتُ منكَ المُنى
إنif لمnot أكنI am أصبحتI became فيin جَهدِdistress
إن لم أكن أصبحت في جَهدِ
O my hope, may I never gain from you what I desire,
My hope, I find no joy in you
if I have not fallen into such distress
If I'm not with you, I'm in distress
حتىuntil بكىwept العذالthe reproachers منout of رحمتيpity for me
حتى بكى العذال من رحمتي
واتخذواand they acquired فيكَconcerning you يداًa favor عنديwith me
واتخذوا فيكَ يداً عندي
that the reproachers wept out of pity for me
That even those in misery pity me
and earned my gratitude on your account.
And intercede with you on my behalf
فلاso not رزقتI was granted الوصلunion إنif لمnot أكنI am
فلا رزقت الوصل إن لم أكن
أصبحتI became أخفيI conceal فوقmore than ماwhat أبديI reveal
أصبحت أخفي فوق ما أبدي
So may I not be granted union if I have not
If we're not joined, I cannot bare
come to conceal more than I reveal.
