دَنِفُailing العزاءsolace فؤادُهُhis heart دَنِفُailing
دَنِفُ العزاء فؤادُهُ دَنِفُ
ظَفِرَتtriumphed بهِover him الحَسراتُregrets والأسَفُand sorrow
ظَفِرَت بهِ الحَسراتُ والأسَفُ
His solace is ailing; his heart is ailing.
The solace of the grieving fills his heart with solace
Regrets and sorrow have triumphed over him.
Sorrows and regrets have prevailed over him
حَيرانbewildered ليسَthere is no لطرفهِfor his gaze أنسٌcomfort
حَيران ليسَ لطرفهِ أنسٌ
إلاexcept السهادُsleeplessness وعبرةٌand a tear تكِفُdrips
إلا السهادُ وعبرةٌ تكِفُ
Bewildered, his gaze finds no comfort
Perplexed, nothing brings comfort to his gaze
Except sleeplessness and a tear that drips.
Except tears and sobbing to suffice
فيin كلِّevery جزءٍpart منهُof him مؤتلفٌgathered together
في كلِّ جزءٍ منهُ مؤتلفٌ
وجدٌpassion بطولِby the length of الشوقِlonging مؤتلِفُbound together
وجدٌ بطولِ الشوقِ مؤتلِفُ
In every part of him is gathered
In every part of him, grief takes its hold
A passion bound together by prolonged longing.
Suffering from prolonged yearning brings him grief
فالكلُّso the whole مطويٌّenfolded علىupon سقمٍsickness
فالكلُّ مطويٌّ على سقمٍ
فوقَbeyond الشفاءhealing وفوقَand beyond ماwhat تصِفُyou describe
فوقَ الشفاء وفوقَ ما تصِفُ
So his whole being is enfolded in sickness,
So everything in him is shrouded in sickness
Beyond healing and beyond what you can describe.
