دَنِفٌ أبلى الجفونَ دَما
He triumphed in the passion he concealed—
The one who endured the agony has won
A lovesick man who wore his eyelids out with blood.
Eyes shedding copious tears of blood

خَبَّر القرطاسَ والقَلما
He used to hide what ailed him; yet indeed
He used to hide what pained him, yet
He told the paper and the pen.
He told paper and pen all he could
بأبيmy father as ransom منthe one whose حسنُهُhis beauty عَلَمٌrenowned

May my father ransom him whose beauty is renowned;
By the one whose beauty's a banner to me
I have become renowned for my passion for him.
In my passion for him, I'm understood

كانتِwas العُقبىthe final outcome لِمَنfor the one who ظلَماdid wrong
كانتِ العُقبى لِمَن ظلَما
I never forget his words:
I'll his words ne'er forget, come what may
"The final outcome favored the one who did wrong."
Destiny favors the unjustly mistreated
