حزينَ المقلتين على الهُجوعِ

Remember and find rest in tears
Sorrowful-eyed at the hour of slumber.
Sorrowful are the eyelids in grief

He threatened with slumber through a long night
And morning comes to me with the sunrise.

غليلٌ ساكنٌ بينَ الضلوعِ
And consigned him to ailments and sorrow—
And he entrusted him with sickness and sorrow
A burning longing dwelling between the ribs.
An agony dwelling between the ribs

He defied whoever reproached him; then he was seized
He disobeyed the one who blamed so desire took him over
By a love that struts within an obedient heart.
A passion strutting in an obedient heart
