بجَفائي أو تسلّي فَسلا
He deliberately grew weary, showing me his weariness,
He pretended boredom to punish me
By shunning me—or he found solace and forgot.
With his indifference or kindness seldomly

وَثنى الطرفَ لكي يقتلني
ليسَnot يكفيsuffices طرفهُhis gaze ماwhat قَتلاit has slain
ليسَ يكفي طرفهُ ما قَتلا
He turned his gaze to kill me;
And turned away his eyes to break my heart
His gaze is not satisfied with those it has slain.
His eyes alone were lethal enough already

God gladdened his eye with it,
May God be pleased with him and his glances
However he wished, and made eyes weep.
However he wished, though it made me weep bitterly

Ah, exalted be God—how beautiful he is!
Oh Lord, how beautiful his eyes are
If only God would ordain that he grant me union!
If only God would make him reconcile with me
