ولمand not يفُقsurpass فيin الضياءِradiance الشمسthe sun والقَمراand the moon
Had he been human, he would not have bewitched humankind,
If there was a human who did not allure people
Nor outshone the sun and moon in radiance.
And who did not outshine the sun and moon in radiance
نورٌlight تجسَّمtook bodily form منحلاdiffuse ومنعقداand condensed
لوif أدركتهbeheld him عُيونُeyes الناسِthe people لانكدَراhe would have grown clouded
He is light embodied, both diffuse and condensed;
An embodied and manifested light
Had people's eyes beheld him, he would have grown clouded.
If people's eyes saw him they would be disturbed
محجبٌveiled لمnot يُكدِّرcloud ماءَwater وجنتهِhis cheek

Veiled, the water of his cheek has never been clouded
Veiled, he did not disturb the water of his oasis
By a glance, nor has an eye cheapened him by gazing.
A glance, no staring eye cheapened him
لوif أعينُeyes الوهمِimagination ترميهِcast glances at him بأضعفِهاwith their faintest glance

If imagination's eyes cast their faintest glance at him,
If the eyes of delusion threw at him their weakest
They would leave a mark upon his cheek, so delicate is he.
They would leave a mark on his cheek, so delicate
