Forgive my sins for the sake of what has passed.

Forgive my sins when we're alone

Do not compare me with one who has ceased to pine.

Don't compare me to those astray

كان ذنباً به فكُن

كان ذنباً به فكُن

أنتَ ممن تفضَّلا

أنتَ ممن تفضَّلا

It was a sin on his part; so be

If it was a sin, then be

yourself among those who show grace.

One who is gracious anyway

وعذولٍ يقولُ لي

وعذولٍ يقولُ لي

لا تَصِل من تبدَّلا

لا تَصِل من تبدَّلا

And a reproacher says to me:

The forgiving say to me

Do not keep ties with one who has changed.

Don't befriend those gone astray

قلتُ في الناسِ إن قبل

قلتُ في الناسِ إن قبل

تُم معافىً ومبتلى

تُم معافىً ومبتلى

I said: Among people—if you accept it—

I say of all people, if you accept

are those spared and those afflicted.
