كيفَhow السلوُّforgetting وأنتَwhile you تعلمُknow أنَّنيthat I
لاnot أستطيعُI am able إلىto السُّلوِّforgetting سَبيلاa way
How could I forget, when you know that I
How can there be forgetting, when you yourself know that I
How can I forget, when you know that I
can find no way to forget?
can find no path at all that leads me to forget?
Can find no path to forgetting?
والنارُand the fire يُؤلمُهاpains it حشايَmy innermost being فحرُّهاso its heat
وتزيدُand it adds قلبيmy heart فيin الغليلِburning longing غَليلاburning longing
Even fire is pained by my innards; its heat
The fire itself is scalded by my burning entrails, and its heat
And fire is pained by my innermost being—so its heat—
adds still more anguish to my heart’s burning anguish.
adds to my heart, already parched, thirst upon thirst.
And it adds burning longing to my heart's burning longing.
نارٌa fire منfrom اللحظاتِthe glances منيfrom me لمdid not تُردwant
عيناكyour two eyes إلاexcept أنthat أكونَI should be قتيلاslain
A fire born of glances. Of me, never desired
A fire born of glances — of me they have wanted,
A fire from glances—nothing was desired of me
your eyes aught but that I should be slain.
your two eyes, nothing at all but that I fall slain.
By your eyes except that I should be slain.
لوif أنَّthat هجركَyour estrangement كانَhad been وَصلاًunion كلَّهُall of it
مَعwith ماwhat أقاسيI suffer منكَfrom you كانwould have been قليلاlittle
Even if all your forsaking were reunion,
Were all your shunning turned to union, every last part of it,
If your estrangement had all been union,
compared with what I suffer from you, that would be little.
set against what I suffer from you, it would still be little.
Beside what I suffer from you, it would have been little.
