أشهَى إليَّ من الدُّنيا وَما فيها
An apple came forth amid the pearls of her mouth,
An apple that came forth with pearls from her mouth,
more delicious to me than the world and all it holds.
More desirable to me than the world and all it holds.

كأنَّما قُطِفَت من خَدِّ مُهديها
White within a flush of red that rose all-prevailing,
White amid redness, suffused with something overpowering,
as though plucked from the cheek of the woman who gave it.
As though plucked from the cheek of its giver.

روحي من السّوء والمكروه تَفديها
A singing slave-girl brought it from a beauty;
A singing girl brought it from a beautiful woman;
may my soul ransom her from evil and misfortune.
My soul would ransom her from evil and misfortune.
لوif كنتُI were مَيتاًdead ونادَتنيand she called me بِنغمتِهاwith her melody
لو كنتُ مَيتاً ونادَتني بِنغمتِها

إذاً لأسرعتُ مِن لَحدي ألبيها
Were I dead, and she called me with her melody,
Were I dead, and she called me with her melody,
then surely I would hasten from my grave to answer her call.
Then I would surely hasten from my grave to answer her.
