أترىdo you think ماwhat شكوتُI complained of يخفىis hidden عليكاfrom you
كنتُI was والقلبand the heart كلّهall of it فيin يدَيكاyour two hands
Do you think what I have complained of is hidden from you?
Do you think what I complain of remains hidden from you
I was, with all my heart, in your hands.
While my heart was all in your hands
ماnot بُكائيmy weeping ولاnor حنينيmy yearning ولاnor شوlonging (first fragment)
قيmy longing (final fragment) ياO منwhom أحبُّI love إلاexcept إليكاto you
My weeping, my yearning, and my long-
Neither my crying nor my yearning nor my wakefulness
-ing, O you whom I love, are for you alone.
O you whom I love but you
أنتَyou سؤليmy desire منamong الأنامِhumankind جميعاًall
والهَوىand love واقفٌfixed بِقلبيin my heart عَليكاupon you
You are my desire among all humankind.
You are my question from all people
And the love in my heart is fixed upon you.
And passion stands in my heart toward you
لاdo not تَسلask عنabout سَرائريmy secrets عندَin the presence of دمعٍtears
لابتلىmay not afflict المُبتليthe one who afflicts بهِwith it عينيكاyour two eyes
Do not ask about my secrets in the presence of tears—
Do not ask about my secrets when tears
May he who afflicts never afflict your eyes with them.
Afflict the afflicted, my eyes, with their flow
