ياO قربهُcloseness to him حلفَally الذنوبsins
يا قربهُ حلفَ الذنوب
وتنافستand competed فيهِfor him القلوبthe hearts
وتنافست فيهِ القلوب
Ah, his nearness—the sworn ally of sins!
O closeness to him, ally of sins!
Hearts vie with one another for him:
And hearts competed for him.
منhe who فاقَsurpassed بالحسنin beauty الأناhuman-
من فاقَ بالحسن الأنا
مَ-kind فكلهso all of him حسنٌbeauty وطيبُand sweetness
مَ فكله حسنٌ وطيبُ
he who, in beauty, surpassed the self,
He who, in beauty, surpassed all human-
he who is wholly beauty and sweetness.
kind—all of him is beauty and sweetness.
ملكَhe possessed العيونَthe eyes فكلهاso all of them
ملكَ العيونَ فكلها
داعcalling إليهِto him لهto him مجيبُanswering
داع إليهِ له مجيبُ
He enthralled all eyes, so every one of them
He has taken possession of the eyes, so all of them
calls to him and answers him.

فمريبُهاso the suspect among them فيin ملكهِhis dominion
فمريبُها في ملكهِ
وتقيهاand the pious among them فيهِconcerning him مُريبُsuspect
وتقيها فيهِ مُريبُ
Their morally suspect one is under his sway,
So the suspect among them are under his rule,
and even their devout, where he is concerned, is suspect.
and the pious among them are suspect where he is concerned.
