أسفاً عليكَ وفي الفؤادِ فنونُ

أسفاً عليكَ وفي الفؤادِ فنونُ

Every limb has wept for you, shedding tears,

Every limb has indeed shed a tear for you,

in grief for you, while the heart holds sorrows of every kind.

In grief for you, while the heart holds many kinds of sorrow.

يا مَن نأى عنِّي وَصد مغاضباً

يا مَن نأى عنِّي وَصد مغاضباً

إن المحبَّ لما بهِ محزونُ

إن المحبَّ لما بهِ محزونُ

O you who withdrew from me and persisted in anger,

O you who went far from me and turned away in anger,

truly, the lover grieves at what afflicts him—

Indeed, the lover is sorrowful because of what afflicts him.

قلقٌ أضرَّ به هوىً وأذابهُ

حتى بكتهُ نواظرٌ وجفونُ

restless, your love has harmed him and melted him away,

Restless—passion has harmed him and melted him away,

كَبرت عليهِ مقالةٌ وظنونُ

O you, peerless in beauty, have mercy on a lover

O you unmatched in beauty, have mercy on a lover:

upon whom a saying and suspicions weigh heavily.

Talk and suspicions have weighed heavily upon him.
