أعوذُI seek refuge باللَهِin God منfrom الهجرِestrangement
معwith ماwhat أرىI see منof قلةِscantness of الصبرِpatience
I seek refuge in God from estrangement,
given how little patience I find in myself.
ياO وجهَface of مَنthe one whom أهوىI love فكنso be شافعاًan intercessor
بحقّby the right of ماwhat فيكَin you منof العذرِexcuse
O face of the one I love, be my intercessor,
by virtue of the excuse within you.
كمhow many ليلةٍa night قدindeed بتُّهاI spent it ساهراawake
بالشوقِwith longing والأحزانِand sorrows والفِكرِand thought
How many a night I have spent awake,
with longing, sorrows, and thoughts.
أجارَsheltered إحسانكَyour kindness وحديme alone كماjust as
أصبحتyou became جارَthe neighbor of القلبِthe heart فيin صدرِيmy breast
Your kindness sheltered me alone, just as
you became the heart’s neighbor within my breast.
