ولعتُI became enamored فأمسكتُso I restrained العذولَthe reproacher عنfrom العذلِreproach
ولعتُ فأمسكتُ العذولَ عن العذلِ
وأصبحتُand I became فيin أمنٍsafety منfrom الندِّa rival والمثلِand an equal
وأصبحتُ في أمنٍ من الندِّ والمثلِ
I fell in love, so I held the reproacher back from reproach.
And I became safe from any rival or equal.
هلis …? الشمسُthe sun إلاexcept بالنهارِby day ضياؤُهاits radiance
هل الشمسُ إلا بالنهارِ ضياؤُها
تنيرُit shines ويطويهاand folds it away المساءُthe evening إلىinto الأفلِsetting
تنيرُ ويطويها المساءُ إلى الأفلِ
Is the sun's radiance not only by day?
It shines, and evening folds it away into setting.
وأنتَand you الذيwho فيat كلِّevery وقتٍtime وساعةٍand hour
وأنتَ الذي في كلِّ وقتٍ وساعةٍ
بكلِّin every مكانٍplace مشرقradiant البَعدِwhat comes after والقَبلِand what comes before
بكلِّ مكانٍ مشرق البَعدِ والقَبلِ
Yet you are the one who, at every time and hour,
Shines in every place, after and before.
ملكتَyou possessed قلوبَthe hearts العالمينَall humankind فأصبحتso they became
ملكتَ قلوبَ العالمينَ فأصبحت
عليكَupon you وقوفاًstanding in attendance منfrom هواكَlove for you علىin وَجلِfear
عليكَ وقوفاً من هواكَ على وَجلِ
You possessed the hearts of all humankind, and now they are
Standing in attendance on you, fearful for love of you.
