O one whose limbs are wasted by long sickness,

And whose inmost heart is enslaved by passion’s heat,

And who is given over to sorrow—his eye was comforted

By the companionship of tears, while sleep left it desolate.

Burning longing seized his heart and melted it

With grief, and clothed his body in the robe of decay.

And his sighing will surely carry away his fortitude

Through longing, until he neither feels nor sees.
