يا سَائِلي عَن منامي
منfrom أينَwhere للعينِfor the eye نومُsleep
من أينَ للعينِ نومُ
O you who ask me about my sleep,
O you who ask about my sleep
How can the eye find sleep?
How can my eyes find sleep
هَذاthis لِهَجركَof your estrangement حولُa year
هَذا لِهَجركَ حولُ
فَهلso is there لوصلِكَfor reunion with you يومُa day
فَهل لوصلِكَ يومُ
Your estrangement has lasted a year;
This is because of your abandonment
So will there be a day of reunion with you?
Will there ever come a day of your union
قدindeed سرَّhave been gladdened بالهجرِby estrangement قومٌsome people
قد سرَّ بالهجرِ قومٌ
وسرّand have been gladdened بالوصلِby reunion قومُsome people
وسرّ بالوصلِ قومُ
Some have rejoiced at estrangement,
Some find pleasure in abandonment
And some have rejoiced at reunion.
And some find pleasure in union
ياO ربَّLord فيin الوصلِreunion لومٌblame
يا ربَّ في الوصلِ لومٌ
وليسand there is not فيin الهجرِestrangement لومُblame
وليس في الهجرِ لومُ
O Lord, there is blame in reunion,
O Lord, there is blame in union
And there is no blame in estrangement.
And there is no blame in abandonment
