حرُّthe heat of أنفاسيmy breaths هوىًpassion فيin قلبهِhis heart

The heat of my breaths is passion in his heart;
It has exhausted patience and bestowed sickness.

And when his breaths grow long because of it,
They split what had always remained whole.
ياO غليلاًburning thirst فيin الحَشاthe breast مسكنُهُits dwelling

O burning thirst whose dwelling is in the breast,
Making both eyes rain tears and blood.
لوif تركتَyou left القلبَthe heart لمdid not يَبدُappear هوىًpassion
لمdid not تَدعهُlet it العينُthe eye أنto يَنكتماbe concealed
Had you left the heart alone, no passion would have appeared;
The eye would not have let it remain concealed.
