Indeed, by tears streaming from the lid of an eye

drowned in tears, onto a cheek drenched with them,

surely my whole being has melted with ardent love and wasting sickness,

and longing for beauty in its fullness has left me gravely ill:

for a radiance fashioned from a full moon’s face,

and another, outspread, of diffused light—

a shining brightness above a branch of a ben tree,

upon a sandhill well watered by downpours and steady rain.
