تجرّىstreamed دمٌblood منfrom دمعِtears عينيmy eye علىupon دمٍblood
منfrom الشوقِyearning مماfrom what خدfurrowed دمعيmy tears فيin خدِّيmy cheek
Blood streamed from my eye’s tears, blood upon blood,
Tears streamed from my eyes onto blood
From yearning, from the furrows my tears carved in my cheek.
From longing, as my tears etched my cheek
رثيتُI pitied لجفنِfor the eyelid العينِof the eye مماbecause of what أرىI see بهِin it
منof الوَجدِanguish بيon my account مماbecause of what رآنيit saw me منof وَجديmy anguish
I pitied my eyelid for what I see in it
I mourned for the eyelid of my eye because of what I see
Of anguish for me, from the anguish it saw me suffer.
Of torment within me from what my torment saw in me
بكيتُI wept دماًblood حتىuntil بقيتI remained بلاwithout دمٍblood
بكاءَthe weeping فتىًof a youth فردٍsolitary علىover شجنٍa sorrow فردِsingular
I wept blood until I was left without blood—
I cried blood until no blood remained
A lonely youth’s weeping over a singular sorrow.
The weeping of a lone young man in unmatched melancholy
أأبكيshall I weep for? الذيthe one whom فارقتI parted from بالدمعِwith tears وحدهit alone
لقدindeed جلَّbecame great قدرُthe worth الدمعِof tears فيهfor him إذاًthen عنديin my estimation
Shall I weep for the one I parted from with tears alone?
Shall I weep for him whom I bade farewell with tears alone?
Then indeed tears for him would have great worth in my eyes.
Indeed, the worth of tears for him is sublime to me
