  1. يا بصري ليتك ما كنتا

    أسررت ما ألقى وأعلنتا

    O my sight, would that you had never existed!

    I concealed what I endure, and you revealed it.

  2. نطقت بالدمع بما في الحشا

    ويحك ما ضرك لو صنتا

    You spoke through tears of what lies in the heart.

    Alas for you! What harm would keeping it hidden have done you?

  3. ليتك إذ بان فؤادي بما

    جنيت عليه لحظة بنتا

    If only, when my heart departed because of what

    You inflicted upon it, you too had departed for a moment.

  4. يا بصرى حسبك ما خنتا

    أنت الذي أهلكتني أنتا

    O my sight, enough of your betrayal!

    You are the one who destroyed me—you!
